Fleet Controller

The position of Fleet Controller reports directly to the State Manager, the position requires early morning starts and the flexibility to work some overtime and some weekends.

The successful applicant will be able to supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in delivering of freight for local distribution and the collecting of freight for transship.

The position includes the ability to;

Assign task(s) to workers to ensure delivery and collection schedules are maintained and that weight distribution guidelines are adhered to and that freight is not damaged

Direct workers to ensure that expenses such as fuel and labor are minimized and productivity of fleet is maximized

Supervise schedules for freight to be delivered in local runs to ensure that all express freight deadlines are maintained

Study incoming freight quantities to determine staffing levels for next day

Detail all demurrage, site delivery and futile delivery expenses and assume recharging responsibilities

Review run construction on a monthly basis and provide regular feedback to the State Manager on driver performance

Obey and enforce company safety policies and systems of work

Inform maintenance manager of any safety concerns related to plant and equipment

Suggest changes to working conditions and use of equipment, systems of work, to increase efficiency of department and or organization

Analyze and suggest solutions to problems when they arise

Maintain delivery and pick up times and to inform customers when times will not be met

Develop strategies with other supervisors and other department to promotes increased efficiency and productivity

The candidate will occasionally be required to train employees and will be involved in appraisal, rewarding and disciplinary proceedings of subordinate staff.

The successful applicant must have a current driver’s license, preferably a forklift license, a first aid certificate and manual handling training. In addition the applicant should have a basic understanding of word processing and some knowledge of freight link transport modules relating to inventory control.

Ideally the successful applicant will have completed secondary education and or have at least 5 years experience in similar or related industries.

The successful applicant must have a valid drivers license and be prepared to work some overtime and some weekends.
